Volocopter, a pioneer in Urban Air Mobility, has expanded into the utility drone business with the VoloDrone.
The VoloDrone is an unmanned, fully electric heavy-lift utility drone, powered by swappable lithium-ion battteries and capable of carrying a maximum payload of 200 kilograms. It can be remotely piloted or flown in automated mode on pre-set routes. With a range of 40 kilometres, its cruising speed is 80km/h and maximum speed is 110 km/h.
The VoloDrone is designed to be a universal air-lift vehicle, utilizing the standardized rail attachment system commonly applied in aerospace and logistics in order to adapt to different purposes using special-purpose implements. Sized to be compatible with Euro-palette packages, it can also accommodate a wide variety of payloads and customized equipment between its landing gear, such as a sling or sprayer.
This flexible equipment system hence allows it to be applicable to a diverse range of industries, such as agriculture, logistics, infrastructure and public services as a faster and cheaper alternative to existing solutions. Examples of its use include transporting heavy packages to remote locations, protecting crops in agriculture, lifting voluminous parts on buildings on construction sites, and many more. In places where land transportation is hindered by a lack of accessibility, the VoloDrone will be able to help with the vertical dimension of air delivery.
